Earlier this week, the world watched as NASA’s Artemis II mission roared into the sky from the Kennedy Space Center. It’s a historic moment for humanity – the first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years – but for 1st Herne Bay, it’s also a local one.

We can officially reveal that the 1st Herne Bay Beavers are on the flight manifest!

Our Boarding Pass to the Moon

Take a look at our official NASA Boarding Pass below. While we couldn’t fit all our Beavers into the Orion capsule (it’s a bit of a tight squeeze!), our Group name was included on a micro SD card that is currently orbiting high above us.

Mission Stats:

  • Spacecraft: Orion
  • Rocket: SLS (Space Launch System)
  • Mileage Earned: A cool 685,000 miles! (That’s a lot of hiking boots…)

Meet the Crew

In the photos below, you’ll see the four incredible astronauts who are carrying us along on their journey: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. They’re currently making the “big push” toward the Moon. They even shared a breathtaking photo of Earth from their window (the featured image of this post). It’s a great reminder of how small our world is and why we look after it here at Scouts.

Skills for Life… and Beyond!

At 1st Herne Bay, we’re all about giving young people the confidence to try new things. Whether it’s pitching a tent for the first time or “joining” a NASA moon mission, we want our Beavers to know that the sky isn’t the limit – it’s just the beginning.

Keep an eye on the mission updates over the next week as the crew loops around the far side of the Moon. We’re so proud to be part of the Artemis Generation!
